Set up TML URL Redirect

Follow these steps before using redirects for a migration or storefront change. First decide which handling your source needs: Shopify native redirects apply to eligible broken URLs; supported live pages need the app's JavaScript browser handling.

    Install the app

    Install TML URL Redirect from Shopify and approve the requested scopes shown during Shopify authorization.

    Enable the app embed for browser redirects

    For supported live-page rules, enable the TML URL Redirect app embed on your published theme. Browser handling needs JavaScript. Eligible Shopify native redirects use a separate HTTP 301 response; enabling the embed does not turn a browser redirect into a native 301.

    Create a redirect rule

    Add a source path and destination. Use store-relative destinations for internal redirects. External destinations in TML URL Redirect require Pro and an approved destination domain. Test platform-controlled paths separately.

    Review sync status

    Check whether rules are synced, pending, skipped, or failed. Resolve conflicts before depending on a redirect for launch traffic.

    Use import/export for bulk work

    Export a backup before bulk edits. For an app import, use Download Sample CSV in TML URL Redirect; its headings differ from Shopify's native importer. Review a small batch before importing the full list.

    Verify one source and destination

    Open the old URL on the published storefront, confirm the intended destination, and inspect the initial document response. Test an expected native 301 separately from JavaScript browser navigation, then repeat for business-critical URLs.

Test representative source URLs in the storefront, confirm destination behavior, and review any sync warnings. Redirect behavior can be affected by Shopify platform routes, theme changes, other apps, and destination availability.
